Once you have a Google Business page, Google Business reviews are one of the easiest and most effective ways to help shape your online customer perception and drive awareness around your business and/or brand.

Obtaining Google reviews, however, has proven to be a challenge for even some the biggest businesses.

What if I told you that you could increase both your chances of getting a customer to write a Google Review and your ability to track whether or not they attempted to write one?

Follow these directions to start sharing your Google Business review link(s) with your customers!


To create a link, you’ll need to get the Place ID for your business. 

To get your Place ID: 

  1. Go to the Google Places API.  (

  2. Enter your business information in the “Enter a location” field at the top of the map.

  3. Click your business name in the list that appears. 

  4. Your Place ID will appear on the map, beneath your business name.

Add your Place ID to the following URL to create your link: 


Using the example above, the URL with the Place ID added would look like: 


*Keep in mind that it’s against the Google My Business review policy to solicit reviews from customers by offering incentives or setting up review stations at your place of business. Reviews that violate the policy may be removed.*


Once we have our Google Business review link we then shorten and track by using Bitly.

Bitly allows you to easily shorten, share, manage, and analyze your favorite links from around the web.After you sign up for a free account, you will see the option to "Create Bitlink" at the top of the page. Once you shorten a link, you can customize and share your link across social channels, email, SMS, print, or anywhere else you can think to put a link!

After you've created your Bitly account follow these directions to shorten your review link:

  1. Make sure that you're logged into

  2. On the top right hand of the screen click on the orange "Create Bitlink Button"

  3. Enter the full URL in the box at the top right of the screen

  4. Click “Create” and you'll be taken to a page with your new shorter URL.

  5. Click on "Copy" to copy your new short URL or "Share" to start sharing it to whatever social accounts you have connected to your Bitly account.

What insights you'll receive:

  • Amount of total link clicks

  • Referrers

  • Locations of open

Bitly's new shorter customized link will then be tracked to provide you with analytical insight to help you fine tune the way you ask and ultimately receive your Google Reviews.
